Eat and Drink

Conwy, North Wales

Places to eat and drink around Conwy

We are proud of the local bars, pubs and restaurants just a short walk from Kirrin Cottage or short drive. The local taxi service, Castle Cabs, will take care of you if you want to venture away from the town walls.

We have put this short guide together because we have noticed that many local guides include places that don’t make the grade in our opinion as they pay to be included.

Conwy Michelin recommended restaurants.

We think this is the best restaurant in Conwy. It’s a modern stylish restaurant with elegantly laid tables and good service. It’s one of the more expensive options in Conwy but prices are not crazy. Expect to pay about £30 for a starter and main course. They have an excellent wine menu. It’s a short taxi ride from Kirrin Cottage, expect to pay £3 for a taxi.

The Erskine Arms is a very good gastro pub a short walk from Kirrin Cottage. Downstairs there is a busy bar and upstairs tables to eat are quieter and more relaxed. There is a great selection of ales, local beers and wine and the food is fantastic. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and it’s where the locals go to catch up. Known as ‘The Castle’ this is an iconic hotel and the most central, full of old world traditional charm. The food is very good and there are lots of locally produced ingredients on the menu. We prefer to eat in the bar area as the restaurant has a very formal feel. Expect to pay about £25 for a starter and main course.

A table with a view

The food isn’t bad, the service isn’t great, but what a view! You can dine in the main restaurant or bar area and there is a lovely outside terrace with stunning views of Conwy Castle and the estuary. You can also call in for just a drink, breakfast or coffee if you don’t want a meal. This Quay Hotel is a 45 min walk from Kirrin Cottage along the beautiful coastal path or 5 min by car. A taxi would be about £4. If you decide to walk from Kirrin Cottage to West Shore, Llandudno this makes a perfect half way stop. In the summer months you can get a boat taxi from the pontoon on Deganwy beach (behind the signal box) back to Conwy quayside.

The Mulberry, Conwy Marina, Ellis Way, Conwy LL32 8EGU.

Great gastro pub with fantastic views of Conwy Marina and Deganwy. The food is very good, the service can be slow due to its popularity so don’t go if you’re in a rush. There is a large outside terrace at the back, blankets are provided and it’s great for relaxing and taking in the scenery. It’s also a perfect stopping point after a walk along the coastal path from Conwy quay along the coastal path. In the summer months it is possible to get a boat taxi back to Conwy quay if you choose not to take the 20 min walk.

Wine Bars and Good pubs

Vinomondo, 19 High Street, Conwy, LL32 8DE.
Tel 01492 573050

Brilliant wine shop selling wines, spirits, craft beers and real ales. There is also an in-house bar so you can try some very special wines, beer, whisky and gin produced in Wales. The owner and her team are super helpful and very knowledgeable, but down to earth so it’s a great chance to try something really good for the same price as an average glass in a pub.

The Albion Ale House, 6 Upper gate Street, Conwy, LL32 8RF.
Tel 01492 582484

It’s the first drinking hole you will pass as you walk from Kirrin Cottage into Conwy. Just inside the town walls it’s a proper pub. The décor is traditional and basic from the post war era. It’s regarded as one of the best pubs in Britain and specialises in real ales and was awarded the CAMRA North Wales Pub of the Year in 2015. Dogs are made to feel very welcome with dog treats served and there is even a dog menu of their treats!
